The Italian Snam focuses on technologies for hydrogen, a source of energy with no environmental impact. The group has signed a partnership with the British Itm Power, which is one of the major global producers of electrolysers, essential components for obtaining hydrogen from renewable sources through water electrolysis. The agreement provides for commercial and technological collaboration for future joint development initiatives, as well as the entry of Snam into the shareholder structure of Itm, with a minority shareholding and an investment of 30 million pounds (approximately 33 million euros), as part of a capital increase of 150 million pounds (approximately 165 million euros) offered for subscription, in addition to Snam, to institutional investors and current shareholders.
Thanks to this agreement, Snam will be able to acquire considerable technical skills in the sector. Thus Snam’s CEO, Marco Alverà: “It is Snam’s first external investment in hydrogen and joins those we are making to make our infrastructure ready for the transport of this new clean energy vector. Snam intends to develop new projects and help to enable the supply chain at an international level and especially in Italy, which has the opportunity to become a green hydrogen hub between Europe and North Africa “. The objective is “to contribute to affirming hydrogen and renewable gases as a decisive solution, together with renewable electricity, to achieve the international objectives of climate neutrality”.
